A slot canyon. Writer photo

We hit the trails early this morning. It Was cloudy when we got up around daylight, but cleared off, and was a beautiful day. Temperatures were in the 70s so it was a great day for hiking.

I went through some narrow canyons as seen above. We drove to various lookout points, and most of them had trails. Some were steep and were a bit precarious, but for the most part, the trails were easy.

This was on a trail to the canyon floor.

Early on I came to a place with a small ledge, that slanted slightly in the wrong direction. There was also an overhanging rock. I decided not to do that one and found an alternate route.

Later on, I scaled a large section of rock, which was an adventure coming down. Nothing to hold on to, just step carefully.

This is the climb I referred to. A little tricky but not too hard.

There is a difference between chickening out and knowing your limitations. The first one required more balance than I normally have. The second one was just a matter of taking…
