What do you think we did at our paper when a govt official said to not send a black reporter/photographer .... :)

What if more black people went to J-school, and worked at some small papers - pay their dues... and then apply for the bigger papers?

This offends journalists because politicians are always trying to pull stuff and control journalists. This has nothing to do with race, everything to do with power
