I didnt grow up like that, and to tell hte truth, i dont personally know a single christian or muslim who would say there is anything tha should not be questioned.

We dont need to read things in different ways. We read to comprehend what the writer was saying. Context is everything. From the writing you can also tell whether it is meant to be taken literally nor not.
