I have been an editor of print publications for years. Your fear is of being edited. Period. It isn’t race holding you back.
A publication that is paying you has a right to expect you to follow their style. If you want to not have to do that start your own publication.
I worked with freelancer s for years. The only thing I ever cared about was if you can write and get it in on time. My writers had to follow style if they wanted to write for me. It was never about race. But I turned several proud writers away
If you want to be a successful writer get over your racial hangup. Learn the style of who you write for and follow it. And turn it in on time
You are a good writer. But unless you own the publication you have no right to make demands. It isn’t about race.
Hope you get that I’m trying to help .. someone gave me this spiel 25 years ago and it paid off.
