Michael Jordan would still have been an all american in collegee and might have made the pros without even practicing. But he loved and wanted hard coaching and was the hardest working player on any team he was with. The difference between good and one of the greatest ever ... was discipline.
I think this general idea applies to raising kids too. YOu have to know the balance and know them, but the natural human tendency is often laziness.
