Some good stuff here.

There is the common idea that he was poor. Lower class ect. But that may not be the case.

People didnt have the "needs" we have today. Other than food, and maybe a place to sleep, you didn't need much.

He could just as well have been middle class. He did have the resources to wander about the countryside without a job or other sources of income.
