I think women hold on to things and make it more personal than men do. At work I might have a shouting match with a collegue, and we may say mean shit to each other ... then we go to lunch and laugh about it and its forgotten by afternoon.

It usually doesnt work that way with women.

Men are more conditioned to withhold emotions, to compartmentalize. I hate you at work,but after hours im your buddy ... and the two never meet.
