Timing has a lot to do with how well stories do and that is something we cant control...

i had one story that was ignored .. had 15 views after a year ... and someone found it and it blew up to several thousand in a month. I had forgotten it.

Ive also redone stories that did fairly well and did not do well the second time around.

As one commenter noted you cant just republish the same thing. it has to have some changes. new headline, new photo .. i think is sufficient>?
